CDC recommends Pfizer- BioNTech booster for 12 to 17 years old

On Wednesday, the U.S Centers for the Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that it has enlarged the capacity of BioNTech SE’s and Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) booster jabs for those who are 12 to 15 years old.

This move is executed after the suggestion of a board of outside experts that the CDC has voted already to approve the booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, which should be made available for the age of 12 to 15.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of CDC has previously voted 13 to 1 to nominate that the health agency of US assists the booster jabs for the age group of 12 to 15 for at least five months after taking their second vaccine dose.

The CDC should make its suggestion stronger for the booster doses for the age group of 16 and 17. For those teenagers, the agency had previously made the booster doses available, but they stop suggesting that all of them should take the additional dose.

The CDC stated in a statement, currently recommended that the youngsters of age group 12 to 17 should go and get their booster dose after five months after completing their initial vaccination series of Pfizer or BioNTech.

In recent days, the United States has hit record levels of Covid-19 cases as a result of the rapid spread of the virus of the Omicron variant. However, the rate of infection is surging as countless schoolchildren, workers and families are coming back home from vacations, hence growing the chances of closed businesses and schools.

The information from the Health Ministry of Israel represented at the meeting advised that the vaccinated children’s from the age group of 12 to 15 who has completed their second dose a long time ago were infected at the same rate as that of the unvaccinated children’s by the virus of Omicron variant.

According to the data, after completing the booster dose, the rate of infection has dropped instantly.

A Director at the US Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Peter Marks, said it is logical to the extent that booster doses up to 12 to 15 years old age group according to the current growth in cases.

On Monday, the FDA has authorized the extra doses for this age group but before managing the doses, the CDC resigned was required.

The Center for the Disease Control (CDC) Director ‘Rochelle Walensky’ said in a statement, “this booster jab will offer better protection against the Omicron variant and Covid-19 virus.”

However few scientists have raised their issues related to the booster doses, because of the infrequent cases of heart infection which is known as myocarditis that has been connected with the doses of Pfizer, BioNTech, and Moderna vaccines, and it is seen particularly in youngsters.

However, there is limited information about myocarditis, after the booster jabs for the age group of 12 to 15, also FDA stated ‘the proof got from Israel and the United States shows that the possibility of myocarditis in men of the age group 18 to 40 is instantly decreasing after receiving the booster dose than after taking the second dose of vaccination.’
