The Success of EMA 2021

The success of EMA 2021

Amidst all the chaos and recklessness unleashed into the world by the pandemic, music, art and culture have been one of the few things which helped us sail through these tough times. The prestigious MTV Music Europe awards have encapsulated the attention of netizens and audiences all across the world and had the internet gushing over it.

Here’s everything you will love to know about it!

This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards took place on 14th November 2021 at a sports arena in Budapest, Hungary, marking the country to be its host for the very first time.

As we know, most prestigious award ceremonies are incomplete without their nominations as they hold a lot of gravity for the potential talents as well as for the agency and choice of the awards. If you go by the nominations, Justin Bieber was the one to be nominated, a lot, this year. Bieber was nominated for a total of 8 awards. After Bieber, there were Doja Cat and Lil Nas X, both of whom had six nominations each. While Little Mix came off as the most nominated female group, BTS became the most nominated group overall.

Interestingly, the category of the best K-Pop has been an addition this year to the MTV Music Europe awards.

JJ Lin, the Mandopop singer from Singapore, has won the Best Southeast Asian Act. The nominations for this category however included Ink Waruntorn from Thailand, K-ICM from Vietnam, Naim Daniel from Malaysia, Lyodra from Indonesia and SB19 from the Philippines. On the other hand, the BTS bagged four awards which included Best K-Pop, Best Group, Best Pop, and Biggest Fans. Needless to say, our very cool, chic and talented Bangtan Boys really are excellent in their skills as they have managed to win these four awards by competing against some of the biggest music bands and singers in the respective nominations, ranging from Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber, Little Mix, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo to Ariana Grande, Black Pink, and Taylor Swift in the Biggest Fans category.

Further Nicki Minaj won the Best Hip-hop, Maneskin as the Best Rock and Doja Cat ( along with SZA) for the Best Collaboration category for “Kiss me more” in the EMA 2021.

Other than JJ Lin, who has also just released his first English Album “Like You Do” in 2021, Saweetie bagged the award in the Best New category. Some other important categories of awards of the EMA 2021 included Ed Sheeran as the Best Artist, David Guetta as the Best Electronic, Maluma as the Best Latin, and Yungblud as the Best Alternative. Further, the best music video was awarded to Lil Nas X for his “Montero, Call me by your name”, and the Video for Good was won over by Billie Eilish for “Your Power”. Olivia Rodrigo, who had reportedly broken the internet with her song “Good 4 u” from album Sour in May 2021 won the Best Push by competing against Girl in Red, Latto, Madison Beer, the Kid Laroi and some others. The 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards had to be held virtually because of the pandemic. But it is evident that this time the EMA has been back with a bang!
