On Purpose: Julia Roberts Hasn’t Done Rom-Coms in So Long

On Purpose Julia Roberts Hasn’t Done Rom-Coms in So Long

The reason behind not seeing Julia Roberts on a romantic comedy for 20 years was revealed by her that she has been taking time out to become a ‘homemaker’ and also the fact she didn’t think any of the scripts that she has seen were up to standard.

The legendary actress, Julia Roberts, whose age is 54, is making her comeback to the genre with flick Ticket to Paradise that will see her star alongside George Clooney and Kaitlyn Dever.

Julia is a mother of three and is perhaps best known for her work in some of the most iconic rom-coms of all time that includes, Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Notting Hill.

But, she hasn’t starred in one since 2001 film America’s Sweethearts.

Julia has now opened up about why she stayed away from them for so long. She explained that it’s not just that she thinks she wants to do this. She has a sense of great pride in being home with her family and consider herself as a homemaker.

She said that for so much of her children’s younger life, they would see their dad go off and she would work a little, but they almost didn’t notice. It felt like that she was only gone when they were napping or something.

Julia has three children with husband named Danny Moder, who is a cinematographer. She got married in 2002, and has 17-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus as well as Daniel who is 14.

She also explained that she has not been avoiding romantic comedies, but that she wasn’t offered anything she thought was good enough.

Talking to the New York Times Magazine, she said that she also had three kids in the last 18 years. This has raised the bar even more because then it’s not only the question of is this material good? It is also the math equation of her husband’s work schedule and the kids’ school schedule and summer vacation.

The star also added that she had not avoided the genre by design but it was simply down to the fact that she was not able to come across anything that she had been ‘interested in’.

Julia further explained that if she had to read a script that was the level of madcap fun, which she had experienced in Notting Hill or My Best Friend’s Wedding, then she would have done it.

Ticket to Paradise has followed a divorced couple who eventually decides to team up and travel to Bali in order to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they believe they made 25 years ago.

The movie is directed by Parker and is set to be released by Universal Pictures on October 21, 2022.
